Catalunya ha querido convencer en su estreno en el programa oficial de la Bienal de Venecia participa por primera vez con pabellón propio con una propuesta impecable: aportar arte para la reflexión, más que para el impacto. Así lo han querido, aunque obras espectaculares y bellas como la del pabellón vecino, o la sucesión ondulante de cuadros de Emilio Vedova ideada por el arquitecto Renzo Piano, logren atraer la atención de los medios durante la loca competición de los primeros días. Tresserras y Carod Rovira defienden la complejidad y el rigor del pabellón catalán

“Estoy muy satisfecho porque, aunque siempre ha habido artistas catalanes en la Bienal, por primera vez tenemos un pabellón propio en Venecia”, comentó ayer Josep Lluís Carod Rovira, vicepresidente de la Generalitat, en la presentación de La comunitat inconfessable, título de la exposición con la que se estrena el pabellón en este gran evento artístico que abrirá mañana sus puertas al público hasta el próximo 22 de noviembre. “Esto nos permite contar con una visibilidad internacional de primer nivel de un momento de las artes plásticas de nuestro país”, añadió Carod, para quien “el arte no tiene patria, aunque puedan tenerla los artistas”.

Desde hace unos días, los venecianos han comenzado a recibir en sus casas extrañas cartas que hablan de amor y de dinero. Reproches afectivos y notificaciones de pago. Deseos torpemente confesados y reflexiones imprevistas. Los remitentes son conciudadanos a los que ni siquiera conocen (¿se habrán equivocado?), pero que, curiosamente, si se fijan bien, ven que en lugar de sellos han estampado en los sobres minúsculas fotografías de sus casas. Vaya. Ahora sí, la cosa resulta rara, cuando no inquietante. Y tal vez nunca lleguen a saberlo, pero en realidad detrás de este intento por establecer una comunicación secreta entre los habitantes de la Laguna se encuentra el espíritu inquieto y explorador del artista Pedro G. Curator Başak Şenova’s project, “Lapses,” which is going to be showcased in the Turkish Pavilion during this year’s Venice Biennial, was introduced to the press this week by Şenova and artists of the exhibition Ahmet Öğüt and Banu Cennetoğlu.
Şenova explained that the word “lapse” connotes numerous verbs and nouns in English, yet there is no one word that corresponds to it in Turkish. “A lapse in the linear and continuous flow of time implies either a sense of disorientation or a disconnection with our personal surroundings. Only by recognizing such a lapse do we realize our ability to restructure memory in the space and time continuum through an uninterrupted flow, with afterimages that recur by narrations and our senses,” she said, adding that the whole project is based on reconstructing the memory again and again by remembering the past. Based on the book of the same name by Maurice Blanchot, The Unavowable Community is a proposal that explores the types of social intervention adopted by various artistic practices that are developed around the idea of the communal.
Three different projects have been selected to form part of this project: Sitesize by Joan Vila-Puig and Elvira Pujol, Technologies To The People by Daniel G. Andújar, and Arxiu F.X. by Pedro G. Romero. These projects share communal strategies of transversality and antagonism, in a territory that is difficult to chart, found in the cracks in both the institution of art and models of cultural productivity. KİTAPLAR Türkiye Pavyonu
Projede üç ciltlik bir kitap serisi de yer almaktadır. Başak Şenova’nın editörlüğünü yaptığı birinci cilt, projenin kataloğu işlevi görmesinin yanısıra kavramsal çerçeve, yapıtlar ve genel süreç hakkında notlar içerir. Küratör, asistan küratör, sanatçıların yanısıra Remco de Blaaij, Sezgin Boynik, Erhan Muratoğlu, November Paynter, Mounira Al Solh, ve Pelin Tan’ın metinlerinden oluşmaktadır.
Jalal Toufic’in editörlüğünü yaptığı ikinci ciltte, William C. Chittick, Jalal Toufic and Paul Virilio’nun felsefi metinleri yer alır. Bu metinler lapses kavramına farklı açılardan ve derinlemesine yaklaşımlar içerir. İçerdiği alıntılarla birlikte, tüm proje için esin kaynağı ve referans oluşturmaktadır.
Başak Şenova’nın editörlüğünü yaptığı üçüncü ciltte ise dört farklı proje, kavramsal çerçeve dahilinde tartışmaya açılmaktadır. Bu projeler, Ceren Oykut’un Park Otel’i, Gökhan Akçura, Korhan Gümüş, Cem Sorguç ve Levent Soysal’ın yazılı katkılarıyla; Daniel García Andújar’ın Postcapital projesi, Iris Dressler and Hans D. Christ’in katkılarıyla; Mushon Zer-Aviv ve Alex Galloway’in Kriegspiel adlı projesi; ve Yane Calovski’nin Master Plan projesi ve Başak Şenova’nın yaptığı kısa söyleşiler yer almaktadır.

Valentín Roma es el comisario del primer pabellón catalán en la Biennale de Venecia. Formando parte de los Eventi Collaterali, la apuesta de Roma va más allá los días de emoción, destellos y prisas de la más histórica de las bienales. Valentín Roma nos habla de cómo van las cosas y de qué ideas conforman su propuesta.
Martí Manen: Hace ya unos meses que, después de un proceso que destacó por su valentía en una apuesta por las buenas prácticas, tu proyecto para el pabellón catalán en la Bienal de Venecia resultó ganador. La bienal ya ha aceptado la propuesta, así que no quedan escollos para que podamos ver el pabellón. ¿Cómo va todo?
Valentín Roma: Bueno la verdad es que estamos trabajando a un ritmo frenético. El proyecto es bastante complejo en el sentido de tener una gran cantidad de interlocutores con los que colaboramos y, también, en el de dirigir su mirada hacia muy distintas direcciones, por lo que no nos sobra demasiado tiempo. Cennetoğlu’s photographs are presented in the form of a performative “mail order catalog,” where hundreds of photographs are classified under subjective categories. All of the photographs from the mailing catalog can be downloaded for free exclusively during the duration of the Venice Biennial. “Rather than selling my works for higher amounts, I chose to give them away for free, so, in a way, the audience will be rewarded when they go home,” she said, explaining the reasoning behind her work.
